Writing 8 B

Why This Class

High school is coming up fast, and you want your student to feel confident entering this new phase. Writing skills will play a key role in your student’s success not only in high school but in life beyond, and this course will help your student take their skills to the next level.

Mentors in this course give students a head-start on crafting the three and five-paragraph essays they’ll frequently write in high school. Mentors help students develop and refine their thesis statements, track down reliable sources for supporting paragraphs, and weave it all together to create compelling closing statements. In the process, students apply all their existing creative and technical skills to persuade their target audiences.

Students who complete this course solidify foundational writing skills that will serve them well in high school and beyond. They are comfortable navigating the basic technical rules of writing while expressing themselves creatively and authentically.
