8th Grade Math A

Why This Class

As a middle schooler, your student is a long way from needing to decide on a career path—but it’s still fun to see them get excited about possibilities. This course guides students through several different areas of math to help them find out what kinds of work might excite them.

Specifically, mentors in this course help students see how foundational algebra and geometry skills pay off in numerous kinds of work, and how relevant and meaningful these skills can be to students’ everyday lives. Students explore patterns in geometry, use algebra to work with equations and functions that have real-life applications, and find solutions to practical situations using two-variable linear functions and statistical data analysis.

By completing this course, students gain awareness of the benefits of math in life-after-school and strengthen their mental fitness, becoming better able to spot the root causes of problems and reason their way to the right answers.
