Middle School Language Arts Program

Help your student gain the writing skills to express who they are.

How we guide your student

Your middle school student has a unique voice, a perspective only they can contribute to the world (even if they don’t quite know what it is yet). They’re also growing up in a time when writing is becoming more and more central to how people communicate. As a parent, you want to help them discover their voice and start developing the writing skills to express it openly and authentically. In general, you want to prepare them to move through life as a creative and confident communicator—and that’s why our Middle School Language Arts Program exists.

In self-paced courses for grades 6 and 7, mentors guide students through immersive and fun projects that help them master the basics of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and organization. In live classes for 8th grade, students prepare to excel in high school by learning to organize ideas in paragraphs and essays. Projects in all courses help students develop both as creative and non-fiction writers and expand their fact-finding and editing skills. Students practice writing daily and get thorough and consistent feedback from mentors that lets them progress quickly.

By completing these courses, students gain mastery of the fundamentals that make writing in high school (and beyond) more comfortable and enjoyable. Most of all, they become familiar with the writing process and learn to move past the feelings of self-doubt and discouragement that might otherwise hold them back from expressing who they are.

Please note that program and course descriptions are subject to change as we continuously improve our curriculum throughout the year. Some courses require subscriptions e.g., Adobe software or online magazines that may not be covered by partner schools. Required books and materials are noted in this document, in SIS, and on individual course pages.
